NEMA donates relief materials to 2022 flood victims, vulnerable persons in Niger
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), has donated relief materials to farmers and vulnerable persons affected by the 2022 flood in Niger state.
The Director General of NEMA, Alhaji Mustapha Ahmed, said this during the flag-off of distribution of support materials to over 23,000 victims in Minna on Saturday.
The intervention was tagged “Special National Economic and Livelihood Emergency Intervention (SNELEI).
Ahmed, represented by Alhaji Abubakar Yusuf, Distribution Supervisor, said the intervention was to support farmers affected by 2022 flood and most vulnerable person to cushion the effect of the disaster.
“Recall that the sad incident of the 2022 flood disaster affected many communities across the country including Niger State,” he said.
He listed the items to include; sewing machine and grinding machine, rice 25kg, beans 10kg, sorghum 10kg, vegetable oil 2kg, salt 1kg, ltomato paste sachets and seasoning.
Others were mosquito nets, yylon mats, blankets, plastic buckets, foam mattresses, sets of cooking pots, toilet soap, detergents and cooking stove.
Also were; maize seeds, rice seeds, herbicide, pesticide, growth enhancers , liquid fertilizers and water pump 3HP.
Ahmed advised the beneficiaries to make proper use of the items to improve their socio-economic conditions.
In his remarks, Mr Garba Yakubu, Deputy Governor of Niger state, commended NEMA for always being there for the downdrothen.
Garba, represented by Mr Bello Ibrahim, Deputy Chief of Staff to the Deputy Gov. said the items would go a long to complement state government efforts in bringing succour to the victims.
Earlier in his welcome address, Alhaji Garba Salihu, Acting Director General of Niger state Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), pledged that the items would be distributed to victims verified.
One of the beneficary, Suleiman Ibrahim, thanked the federal government for the gesture, adding that items would go a long in allivating their sufferings.
