Niger Assembly Did not Stalled Screening of Commissioner Nominees, Says the Speaker.
The Niger state House of Assembly has described as fake news, reports in some media that it has stalled the screening of commissioner nominees sent to it by the state Governor, RT. Hon. Umar Bago over the number allocated to Christians in the state
.
The House while reacting to some Newspaper report said the list of the commissioner nominees was only received by the house at the plenary on Thursday and had not being debated upon and wondered where a decision to stalled the screening was taken as reported by some section of the media.
Recalled that some online media on Sunday reported that the house has stalled the screening of commissioner nominees over the nomination of only three Christians in the 30 names sent to the assembly for consideration
But the house in a statement by the Director Media and Public Relation, Mallam Farouk Umar said the Report was not misleading but was written out of the imagination of writer, adding that “nowhere such decision was taken at it plenary on Thursday after the receipt of names of commissioner nominees”.
According to him, “the members only received the list of the Nominees on the floor of the house on Thursday and immediately adjurned plenary.
The list has not been deliberated upon by the members not to talk of screening.,”In addition to this, the names have to be sent to the security agency (the DSS) for clearance before appearing before for house for proper screening.
That is the procedure.
” Again it is important to stress that it is not the responsibility of the lawmakers to determine who get nominated by the Governor as Commissioner, theirs is to screen inline with the guidelines and establish rules of the house”.
While appealing to the public to ignored the said publication which according to him, was meant to set the legislatures against the executive arm and equally slow down the tempo and momentum of the house, Mallam Farouk urged the media to always cross check their facts before rushing for publication.
He then reiterated the commitment of the legislative arm of the government to work harmoniously with the executive arm for the overall benefits of the people and the development of state in general. .
