Trailer plunges into River Niger with over 120 passengers.

A trailer plunged into River Niger along Bida- Mokwa road last Thursday conveying over 120 people and animals killing 3 people 78 sustained various degrees of injuries while 47 were rescued unhurt.
According to the report from the Road safety unit commander in Bida,ACC Ukuta Devine,said the Bida unit command of the road safety said the trailer stopped over at Bida while coming from Katsina state and added perssangers to the trailer which is already loaded with animals and perssangers heading to Illorin.
Eye witness told Aljazirah that the accident occurred in the process of dodging a pot hole and the driver lost control and plunge into the Wuya bridge at about 9.pm Thursday, Aljazirah learnt that the team of rescue operation and that of Federal Medical center Bida quickly mobilised to the scene of the accident at Wuya bridge to evacuate the affected victims..
The unit commander explained that the rescue operation lasted for about three hours discovered two people died at the scene of the accident, while one died at the Federal Medical center Bida, 47 were rescued unhurt while 78 were receiving treatment,but can not ascertain the number of animals that died at the scene of the accident as many were seen dead.
In a similar development a Daff trailer with registration number blue in colour was also involved in an accident with 22 Passengers on board along Bida-Lapai road killing three people,19 sustained various degree of injuries and were evacuated to Umaru Sanda general Hospital Bida and Federal Medical center.
ACC Ukuta who expressed displeasure over the incessant occurrence of accidents due to the Bad nature of Lapai-Bida road, said despite the sensization carried out by the Federal road safety officials and other agencies every week to drivers of articulated vehicles on the dangers associated to over loading the accident is in the increase.
