Gov Umar Bago has Pardoned and ensure the release from Correctional centers of 80 Inmates in Niger.

The Governor of Niger State RT Hon Muhammad Umar Bago has Pardoned and ensure the release from Correctional centers of 80 inmates after paying N20 million fines and compensation on their behalf.

The Acting Governor, Comrade Yakubu Garba who represented the Governor at the event which took place at Old Correctional center (Old Prison) Minna disclosed that their pardon was in the interest of fairness and good conduct.

He  advised them to integrate into the society and desist from acts capable of returning them to the correctional centres.

According to the Governor, “We secured their release in the interest of fairness since this is their first crimes and the crimes are minor. The inmates are young in age and needed help”.

He further appealed to them to take advantage of their freedom and engage in useful ventures,to be law abiding citizens and shun criminal acts.

Earlier, Hajiya Aishatu Usman, Permanent Secretary, Political Affairs, said the state Governor approved the payment for the release of the 80 inmates from eight correctional centres in the state and warned them to be of good behavior anywhere they are going.

In his remarks, Mr Salman Abdulkadir, Controller of Correctional Service, Niger state Command, disclosed that the state government paid about N20 million as fines and compensation.

He said the release inmates would help decongest prisons and advised them to see their freedom as a second chance to unite with their families,to be of good behavior and embarks on meaningful ventures for livelihood.

One of the discharged inmates, Danjuma Dan kambari, appreciates the governor for securing their freedom and promised on behalf of the pardoned inmates to be law abiding and a better citizen.
