There are lessons to be learnt with the victory of Mohammed Umar Bago at the governorship election in niger state
A demonstrable outcome of his emergence, had to do with the convergence of a demographic shift in favour of a new generational shift.
This development, is a defining moment in the history of state to the extent that youths openly declared their unalloyed support to ensure his victory. They see him as their own,own him and would not let go.
Another formidable group, that you cannot discard are stakeholders, forming an idealogical united front in their estimation of the new direction they want the state to go.
Bago, with a broad spectrum of massive base, they entered the electoral circle with brave dispositions, bravado and exuberant energy to showcase their support.
An idea whose time has come, cannot be ignored and by extension what cannot be avoided should be endured.
Future aspirants, will take a lesson from him, to the extent he bought candour, panache and effervescence, can do spirit, which is reflection of his multi academic and cultural dispositions in the build up towards contesting as a governor. This perspective of his personality made him a beacon of hope towards changing the present narrative on the future of the state.
With this appeal, it is instructive to note that his opponent was magnanimous to conceed defeat and congratulated him.
Aspirants of the future, should take note there is no comfort zone despite zoning. They have to be downright down to earth in their interactions within the polity. It is not enough to be within a zoning platform, you just have to create a defining personality for yourself.
Baago, in the build up from the primaries, demonstrated and demobilized opposition’s for his ability to speak the languages of all groups. He was at home with elder, displayed robust cultural sensibilities with them across the geopolitical zones in the state. You just cannot ignore this emerging personality.
Going further, the presumptive governor, has demonstrated a lesson in consistency. From a relatively weak CPC, he has remained steadfast with the party and retained his pride of place despite the evolution of the party .
A creative force, unknown was the integrated political structure assembled by the party. This has enabled the deployment of resources and critical personnel in real time for contact and mobilization.
Looking into the future, the victory of Bago and attendant forces have given birth to a new political structure in the state. It is unmatched in its composition, diversity, profile and sheer versatility. It produced a political earthquake not anticipated and ultimately took the wind out the sail of opponents. Countdown towards the election, his camp was inundated with an avalanche of intrigue, hostility a high caliber remarketing. However, this structure withstood all onslaughts and have become vindicated.
What further evidence, do you need in niger state to announce the evolution of new political movement.
With the likes of Mohammed Umar Bago, governor elect, Senator Mohammed Sani Musa, CON, Abdulahi Idris Garba ( mai solar) Usman Batamangi, Mohammed Nma Kolo, Kabiru Abass, Baba Ndaman, Dr Isa Adamu working in solid partnership with representatives of the state at the national assembly. Women played significant roles that cannot be forgotten in a hurry led by hajiya kaka wabi, ably supported by hajia hadiza Idris kuta and maryam kolo.
This rainbow coalition is difficult to ignore, if you factor in the contribution of former Pdp chairman in the state, Abdulrahman Enagi, Aminu Bobi, Zakari Rabbah and Adamu Gani all zonal chairmen of the party who assiduously worked for the success of the party. Chairman, lapai local government area Jantabo, a fighter delivered on his mandate and the ever present Aldulberqy Ebbo doing what his knows best through building of resource oriented coalitions.
