Court remand 17 Person in Prison belonging to the gang of Brigands in Niger State.

Court remand 17 Person in Prison belonging to the gang of Brigands in Niger State.

Seventeen Persons among them four teenagers have been remanded in correctional Custody by the Minna Chief Magistrate court number one for belonging to the gang of Brigands.

The defendants were said to have been terrorizing  residents of Maitumbi and its environs of Bosso local government area in the last three months.

The operatives of Commissioner of police CP Crack Squad of the Niger State Police Command led by SP Hassan Gimba effected the arrest of the  defendants  after receiving distress calls on the activities of the gangs.

They were arraigned on four  count charges which bothered on Criminal Conspiracy, Criminal Intimidation, belonging to gang of Brigands and  being in possession of Property reasonably suspected to be stolen

According to the charge sheet marked  MN/CMC/CR/92/2023 the four count, were punishable under sections 97(2),397,305(1), and 319(A) of the penal code law.

Police Prosecutor Ahmed Saidu ASP had told the court that on the 11th of October,2023, an information from a reliable source that some group of hoodlums has criminally conspired among themselves, with an intention to cause  mayhem in Maitumbi and Minna metropolis.

” On the receipt of the information, a team of ADC and operatives of the CP Crack Squad led by SP Hassan Gimba swung into action and raided some Criminal hideout in Maitumbi and Minna and effected their arrest in their hideout”

During spot searched by the police, some dangerous offensive weapons and property reasonably suspected to be stolen among them Include five cutlasses, two sharp knives  three sticks, one iron cuter, three scissors, one unregistered motorcycle, one motorcycle plate number and two spanners were recovered in  their possession

It was also confirmed  that during police interrogation ” you all confessed to the crime. Intelligence and investigation further  revealed that you all belong  to gang of Cultist group called Oya going about threatened and terrorizing innocent citizens within the areas with dangerous weapons and snatching their handset and other valuable items  on the process you injured one Mohammed Zaharadeen Abubakar

When the charges were read to them by the presiding Chief Magistrate Hajiya Ummulkhatum Mohammed, one of the defendant pleaded   guilty to the charge while the others pleaded not guilty

However, the police Prosecutor Ahmed Saidu ASP told the court that investigation in to the matter has just commenced and he prayed the court to remand them in the Correctional Custody and urged the court to convict and sentenced the only defendant that pleaded guilty through summary trial in accordance to the provision of Section 157 of the Criminal procedure code.

While granting the prayer of the Prosecutor, Hajiya Ummulkhatum Mohammed then remanded them and adjourned the case to 15th of November for the Conviction of the defendant  and further hearing into the case.
