Nigeria Labor Congress, Niger State, praises Bago for retaining Garba as Running Mate
The organized labour in Niger State has commended Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago for keeping his deputy, Comrade Yakubu Garba, as his running mate for the 2027 governorship election. They see this decision as a sign of confidence, competence, and continuity in leadership.
This acknowledgment was expressed in a joint statement signed by the Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Niger State Council, Comrade Idrees Abdulkareem Lafene, and the State Secretary, Comrade Maria Musa.
The statement states that the governor’s choice reflects a strong working relationship among the state government, the workforce, and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). It also mentions that this decision has boosted workers’ confidence in the current administration.
The labour movement describes Comrade Yakubu Garba as a stabilizing force and a dependable partner who has consistently promoted peace, unity, and harmonious coexistence among the state’s various ethnic, political, and social groups.
The NLC highlights that Governor Bago’s decision to retain his deputy, despite some calls for his replacement, demonstrates his dedication to competence, loyalty, experience, and political stability.
It also emphasizes that keeping the deputy governor is a source of pride for organized labor. They stress that Garba’s background as an experienced trade unionist has helped him build bridges across divisions and make significant contributions to Niger State’s growth and development.
The statement reaffirmed organized labour’s strong support and collaboration with the APC-led government of Governor Bago. They pledge to continue working together to promote policies and programs that improve workers’ welfare and support the overall development of the state.
The NLC congratulated Comrade Yakubu Garba on his renomination and encouraged him to remain committed to the principles of unity, inclusiveness, and selfless service. These qualities, the labour movement affirms, continue to earn him respect both inside and outside the labor community.
