Niger Christian Coalition Demands Fair Representation in 2027 Elections

The Coalition of Concerned Christian Stakeholders in Niger State advocates for equitable and balanced representation of Christians in the 2027 general elections under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Niger State.
During a press briefing at NUJ Correspondent Chapel Conference Hall in Minna, Coalition Secretary Comrade Jude Johnson emphasized their call for a Christian Deputy Governor in the upcoming elections or an alternative that ensures their interests are safeguarded.
The coalition urges Governor Mohammed Umar Bago and all key APC stakeholders to support the emergence of a Christian Deputy Governor in the 2027 gubernatorial contest. Johnson rejected the ongoing Muslim-Muslim governorship ticket, citing the significant contributions, dedication, and population of Christians in the state.
He highlighted that Christians constitute over 45% of Niger State’s population and criticized the current administration for marginalizing Christians.
Johnson pointed out that qualified Christian politicians were pressured to relinquish their ambitions during the APC primaries due to religious bias.
Johnson affirmed that selecting a Christian Deputy Governor is vital not only for religious representation but also for justice, fairness, inclusivity, democracy, and national unity.
Coalition Chairman Mr. Jonathan Tsado Vatsa reaffirmed the group’s stance on equal governance representation, aligning with the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Niger State.
He condemned the previous administration’s marginalization and vowed to oppose such segregation in the next term.
Vatsa criticized the continued acceptance of a Muslim-Muslim ticket as insensitive to the state’s religious diversity and declared the coalition’s refusal to endorse another four years under such conditions.
He emphasized that advocating for a fair share of political power is a legitimate pursuit rooted in equity and rightful participation.
