NUJ National President Mourns Former Radio Niger GM, Ibrahim Ahmed
The National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Alhassan Yahaya, has paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmed Kontagora, a former General Manager of Radio Niger, who recently passed away in Minna.
Represented by the Chairman of the NUJ Niger State Council, Dr. Abu Nmodu, Comrade Yahaya described the late Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmed Kontagora as a veteran, experienced and accomplished broadcaster whose contributions significantly advanced the growth and development of the broadcasting industry in Nigeria.
He noted that the deceased began his career in the media industry in the early 1960s and played a pivotal role in nurturing young broadcasters, many of whom now occupy key positions within the profession.
The NUJ President said that as the first indigenous General Manager of Radio Niger, Alhaji Kontagora laid a solid foundation for the station through staff training, motivation and the provision of essential broadcasting equipment.
According to him, the late broadcaster will be remembered for his simplicity, courage, steadfastness and unwavering commitment to professionalism, qualities that continue to serve as an example to journalists and broadcasters.
Comrade Yahaya urged staff of Radio Niger and other electronic media organisations in Niger State to uphold the legacies of the deceased by maintaining high standards of professionalism and dedication in their duties.
He prayed for Allah to forgive the shortcomings of the deceased, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus and give his family the strength to bear the loss.
Responding on behalf of the family, the Madaki of Kontagora, Alhaji Aminu Ahmed, thanked the NUJ National President for identifying with the family during the period of mourning.
He said the condolence visit reflected the remarkable and exemplary life of the late Alhaji Ibrahim Ahmed Kontagora, whose service in the media industry was marked by integrity and fairness.
Alhaji Aminu Ahmed also commended the NUJ for recognising the invaluable contributions of the deceased to the development of broadcasting in Niger State and urged media practitioners to always place national interest above personal considerations.
