ICAN MINNA DISTRICT SOCIETY INAUGURATES EPHRAIM MUE AS 9TH CHAIRMAN
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN), Minna and District Society, has inaugurated Mr. Ephraim Oryina Mue as its 9th Chairman, with a commitment to strengthening professionalism, transparency, accountability, and capacity development within the accounting profession.
Speaking during the investiture ceremony of the 2026/2027 Executive Committee held on Saturday at the Saftec Hotels Conference Hall, Minna, the newly inaugurated Chairman outlined a seven-point agenda that will guide his administration while pledging to consolidate on the achievements of previous leaderships.
According to him, the cardinal points of his administration include inclusivity and member engagement, advocacy and strategic engagement, institutional branding and collaborations, community and corporate social responsibility, membership and capacity development, technical sessions and continuous professional development, as well as Gen Z involvement and youth participation.

Mue stated that his administration would further complement these priorities with enhanced human capacity development and improved welfare for members of the institute.
He noted that the Minna District Society would deepen collaboration with relevant stakeholders to promote professionalism, transparency, and probity in both public and private sectors.
“I am aware of the daunting responsibilities that lie ahead of us for the administrative year. However, with your support and prayers, nothing is insurmountable. We will explore continuing professional development programmes aimed at equipping young professionals with the skills required to meet the challenges of the AI generation, data analytics, and emerging technologies,” he said.
The Chairman emphasized ICAN’s commitment to promoting accountability through its Accountability Index, a mechanism used to assess financial management practices across states of the federation.
“ICAN has always been at the forefront of championing transparency through the ICAN Accountability Index. We will continue to deepen collaboration in this area and engage government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to strengthen probity and accountability in the civil service,” he added.
Mue further assured members that efforts would be intensified to bridge professional knowledge gaps through effective technical and training programmes.
“As I stand before you accepting to serve as Chairman for the year 2026/2027, I solicit your unflinching support, cooperation, and loyalty in all ramifications—financial and otherwise,” he stated.
Following his inauguration, Mue administered the oath of office to other members of the Executive Committee, including the Vice Chairman, Hafiz Omoniyi; Secretary General, Maryam Yahaya; Assistant Secretary General, Umar Alhassan; Financial Secretary, Salihu Ndagi; Treasurer, Usman Abdulganiyu; Technical Secretary, Samson Faniyi; Social/Publicity Secretary, Babalola Ezekiel; Assistant Social/Publicity Secretary, Yewa Usman Shaba; Ex-Officio I, Adamu Garba Kuta; and Ex-Officio II, Kawu Alhassan.
In his keynote address, the 62nd President of ICAN, Hajiya Queensley Sofuratu Seghosime, represented by Dr. Zakari Yahaya, commended the outgoing executive members for their service and urged the new leadership to intensify membership drives and develop strategies for attracting more young people into the accounting profession.
Also speaking, the Chairman of the occasion and Registrar/Chief Executive of the National Examination Council (NECO), Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, represented by Dr. Durodola Solomon, charged members of the institute to embrace technological innovations and integrate them into their professional operations.
He observed that emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) offer immense opportunities for accountants to optimize operations, enhance efficiency, improve customer experience, and dedicate more time to strategic responsibilities.
Highlights of the ceremony included cultural performances by the St. Augustine Tiv Dancers, presentation of awards to deserving individuals in recognition of their contributions and service, as well as group photographs and networking sessions.
