Nami Support Organisation Demands Accountability for Mokwa Relief Donations from Niger State Gov’t

One year after the devastating Mokwa flood in Niger state, Nami Support Organisation has called on the state government to urgently account for the disbursement and distribution of all relief materials donated in cash and kind to the flood victims.

This call is contained in a press statement issued by the organisation’s Director General, Sanusi Muhammad Umar, in Minna.  He noted that his principal personally transferred N10 million into the Niger State Emergency Distress account with First Bank on 10th June 2025.

Mr Sanusi further said that this call for accountability became necessary following public concern over the omission of some donations from the recently released list by the state government, especially the donations by the NigerSouth Foundation, worth thirty million naira (N30,000,000).

The statement recalled that on 5th June 2025, the letter to Governor Mohammed Umar Bago through the Niger State Emergency Management Agency NSEMA titled: Letter of Condolence and Support to Mokwa Flood Victims, was personally signed by Muhammad Nami and was received on 11th June, 2025. The donated items included 500 pieces of wrappers, 1,000 buckets, mattresses, and 100 pieces of pillows worth N20 million and N10 million in cash, making a total of N30 million.

The Director General, Mr Sanusi, stressed that the call for accountability is not to apportion blame but to promote transparency and ensure that relief materials intended for the disaster victims reach the actual beneficiaries.

Mr Sanusi noted that, despite the documentation of the donations and the wide media coverage it received, the official donor list recently published did not carry his principal’s name, indicating foul play.

He therefore called on the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) and all other relevant authorities managing the Mokwa flood Relief Funds and materials to immediately review all records of donations received and publish a supplementary/ updated list that accurately reflects all contributions, including those of Nigersouth Foundation.

Mr Sanusi also reiterated that Muhammad Nami remains committed to supporting the people of Mokwa and Niger State. He prayed for the repose of the souls of the deceased and for God to continue to grant the affected families the strength to overcome the trauma.

June 2026 marks one year since the devastating flood of 28th May 2025 in Mokwa town, Mokwa local government area, of Niger State, which claimed many lives and destroyed homes and livelihoods. The disaster was widely reported by media outlets, which showed the extent of the damage and the urgent need for support.
