CC Ogunleye Inspects Custodial Facilities in Niger State Command, Calls for Vigilance
The newly appointed Controller of Corrections for the Nigerian Correctional Service Niger State command, CC Ogunleye Seyi Oladipupo, conducted inspections of the Minna New and Old medium-security custodial centers on Friday, April 17, 2026. This proactive effort aimed to reinforce security within facilities under his jurisdiction.
According to a statement by CSC Rabiu Mohammed Shuaibu, the Public Relations Officer of the Correctional Service (CPRO), CC Seyi took command on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, succeeding the retired CC Ponyak Nandang.
CC Ogunleye visited both main custodial centers to meet staff and inmates, evaluate the condition of the facilities, and prioritize welfare, well-being, and security measures to mitigate threats.
In a separate engagement at the Minna Old and New Custodial centers, CC Seyi interacted directly with inmates, encouraging compliance and cooperation to improve their circumstances.
He emphasized the importance of good behavior and urged inmates to participate in vocational and educational programs to facilitate self-reliance post-release.
Since assuming his duties just two days prior, the new controller examined the kitchens, clinics, ICT centers, and other vital areas to ensure operational standards were met.
He commended staff for their commitment to maintaining cleanliness and hygiene, urging continued diligence.
Further, he inspected staff barracks to identify support needs that could enhance morale and service delivery.
During interactions with officers and personnel, CC Ogunleye stated that he was delegated by the Controller General of Corrections (CGC), Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, MFR, mni, to uphold policies of discipline, professionalism, and a strict zero-tolerance approach to unethical conduct.
He highlighted that under CGC Sylvester’s leadership, any individual found trafficking illicit items such as phones or drugs or engaging in activities that threaten security would face severe repercussions.
CC Seyi Ogunleye emphasized the collective responsibility required to ensure the safety and security of correctional facilities, especially amid the current insecurity in parts of Niger State.
He urged staff to remain vigilant and to uphold the high standards expected of the centers.
Concluding his visit, CC Ogunleye reviewed all correctional records thoroughly before proceeding to inspect other custodial centers in the region.
