North-Central Zonal Executive Committee of Campaign for Democracy Calls for Urgent Action Against Insecurity in Nigeria
During the 82nd North-Central Zonal Executive Committee meeting held on April 9, 2026, in Minna, Niger State, the committee, composed of civil society organizations under Campaign for Democracy (CD-CSOs), deliberated extensively on national issues.
Dr. Abdullahi Mohammed Jabi, Chairman of the coalition, addressed journalists, emphasizing the need for intensified efforts by federal, state, and local governments to combat insecurity, terrorism, and kidnapping across the country.
He commended the patriotism of military personnel on the front lines, wishing them success and reaffirming that their sacrifices are vital for national peace.
The committee also expressed condolences to the governors of Plateau, Nassarawa, and Niger States over recent violent attacks that resulted in the loss of innocent lives and displacement of communities, attributing these challenges to socio-economic sabotage and urging the adoption of technology-driven solutions.
Furthermore, the coalition urged the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to demonstrate fairness and sincerity by compensating political support groups that helped secure Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s victory in the 2023 general elections.
They warned that neglecting this could jeopardize the party’s re-election prospects in 2027.
The coalition reaffirmed its support for the unbiased stance of INEC Chairman Prof.Joash Ojo Amupitan (SAN) and INEC’s handling of internal conflicts within the ADC Party, emphasizing adherence to the rule of law to ensure peaceful leadership resolution.
The group then dismissed false claims that APC is pushing for a one-party system, reaffirming Nigeria’s constitutional multi-party system and calling on opposition parties to participate actively in the democratic process ahead of the 2027 elections.
