Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) Niger State Calls for Action to End Insecurity and Foster Unity

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Niger State Chapter, has appealed to both federal and state governments to accelerate efforts aimed at alleviating the hardships faced by citizens and ending the persistent insecurity challenges in the state.

In his Easter message titled “Be Hopeful, Be Resilient, Be Compassionate,” Most Rev. Dr. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna, the State Chairman of CAN and the Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese, urged Christian faithful to use the occasion to demonstrate love to the less privileged by sharing gifts with the needy, widows, orphans, and vulnerable members of the community.

He emphasized that Easter marks the joyful conclusion of the Lenten season of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving, and serves as a reminder of God’s love for all, as reflected in 1 Corinthians 15:3-4.

Bishop Yohanna called on the federal and state governments to intensify their efforts in relieving suffering and addressing the security issues that have ravaged the land, claiming innocent lives, disrupting farming activities, and rendering many homeless.

He also urged continued prayer for Niger State, emphasizing unity, peaceful coexistence, and divine guidance for leadership, particularly for the state Governor, Umaru Bago. He expressed hope that efforts such as the “New Niger Agenda” would be fully realized and that ongoing projects would reach fruition.

Additionally, Bishop Yohanna encouraged citizens, especially Christians, to participate actively in the upcoming 2027 general elections and urged the government to sustain an inclusive governance approach.

He commended everyone for embodying love, mercy, compassion, and self-sacrifice, reflecting the living presence of the Risen Jesus in their lives.
