Gbagyi Leaders Gather in Niger State to Support Cultural Festival and Pay Tribute to Babangida
Niger State stakeholders of the Gbagyi community in Niger State convened a high-level meeting to reaffirm their commitment to cultural preservation and to honor distinguished personalities.
The gathering brought together leaders of Gbegnu Boknu Yakwo, the Gbafest organizing committee, and various community stakeholders.
The meeting, organized by Gbegnu Boknu Yakwo under the guidance of the Gbagyi Elders Forum, aimed to promote unity among the Gbagyi people. It also served to rally support for the upcoming Gbagyi National Cultural Festival and to finalize plans to honor former Nigerian Head of State, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, in recognition of his contributions to the Gbagyi community and his role as a prominent son of the land.
Prince Innocent Zadunya Kure, Chairman of the Gbafest Organizing Committee, expressed appreciation to the Gbagyi Elders Forum for its ongoing support and to Gbegnu Boknu Yakwo leadership, President Dr. Bako Wakili and Vice President Hon. Moses Alkali, for their efforts in advancing the festival’s goals.
Vice Chairman Comrade Yakubu Adamu Allawa emphasized the importance of honoring Babangida, highlighting his longstanding contributions to the development and unity of the Gbagyi people.
Gbafest spokesperson, Hon. Joel Stephen Gimba, underscored the cultural and historical significance of the recognition, stressing its importance to the community.
The Gbagyi National Cultural Festival is scheduled to take place at the Emir’s Palace in Minna on March 28, 2026, starting around 10:00 a.m.
Participants from across the State and beyond are expected to attend, celebrating the rich heritage and solidarity of the Gbagyi community
