Niger State Governor Urges Accelerated Action on Water Supply in Minna or face Dismissal – Gov. Bago

In continued efforts to ensure an adequate and reliable water supply in Minna, the capital of Niger State, and other urban areas across the state, Governor Umaru Bago has issued a strict directive to the management and staff of the Niger State Water Board to fulfill their responsibilities or face decisive administrative measures.
The Governor conveyed this warning during an on-the-spot assessment visit to the Chanchaga Waterworks, expressing his dissatisfaction over ongoing water shortages in parts of the capital despite sustained investments and government interventions.
Addressing the facility’s personnel, including the Permanent Secretary and senior management, Governor Bago emphasized that failure to meet their mandates would result in serious consequences, including possible dismissal.
He pointed out that the current administration has provided the necessary funding, equipment, technical support, and policy guidance to facilitate optimal performance.
“It is unacceptable for Minna to lack an adequate water supply,” he stated, highlighting that access to potable water is a fundamental necessity for public health, sanitation, economic activity, and overall quality of life.
The Governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to revitalizing key infrastructure across the state, especially in the water sector, which is vital for urban development.
He noted that the Water Board has been equipped with resources needed to meet increasing demand and must now deliver tangible results.
He further instructed officials to ensure a continuous and reliable water supply to residents, warning that excuses for underperformance would no longer be tolerated.
According to him, the government’s investments should lead to visible improvements that citizens can experience daily in their homes and businesses.
This visit is part of a broader monitoring and accountability framework aimed at ensuring that government agencies align with the state’s development priorities. The Governor reiterated that delivering essential services, including water, remains a top priority of his administration.
Residents have been assured that the government will continue to enhance oversight mechanisms, upgrade facilities, and enforce service standards to secure a sustainable water supply across Minna and other major towns in Niger State.
The administration stresses that improved water infrastructure is crucial for long-term socio-economic growth and the enhancement of residents’ living standards.
