Niger State Squash Association Chairman Urges Commitment and Support for Monthly League
Mrs. Taiwo Akinkoye, Chairperson of the Niger State Squash Association (NSSA), has called on both veteran and aspiring squash players to demonstrate greater dedication to their development. She also appealed to former state players to support the association by sponsoring the monthly squash league.
Akinkoye made this appeal shortly after the presentation of cash prizes to winners across various categories in the inaugural 2026 monthly NSSA Squash League, held at the Minna Sports Club on David Mark Road, Tunga, Minna, over the weekend.
A former national top seed representing Niger State, Akinkoye addressed the 34 registered participants, emphasizing that the league aims to prepare players for higher achievements at regional and international levels. She urged participants to approach the competition with utmost seriousness.
While praising the sponsorship of the league by “SEGREG”, a couple and former players from Niger State, Akinkoye urged other alumni to support the event to foster a future generation of squash champions.
She stated, “This monthly squash league is for you—if you aspire to excel in squash or make a name for yourself in the sport. Take it seriously.”
Akinkoye also encouraged players, both new and experienced, to develop new tactics and improve stamina—key factors essential for competing effectively against Nigerian and international counterparts.
In the junior category, nine-year-old John Emmanuel, the event’s youngest winner, revealed his ambition to join the Nigerian Army to combat terrorism and insecurity, which have caused displacements in his home state of Benue.
Out of the 34 registered players across senior, intermediate, and junior categories sponsored by SEGREG, winners included Aliyu Ibrahim, Isaac Afokhai, and Emmanuel John.
