FCT Council Elections: Teargas Disrupts Vote Counting at Kuchaku Polling Unit in Kuje
By Our Correspondent
Tear gas was reportedly fired at the Kuchaku polling station in Kuje Area Council on Saturday, coinciding with the commencement of ballot counting. The incident caused panic among voters and interrupted the collation of results.
A video circulating online shows a voter alleging that armed individuals associated with the All Progressives Congress (APC) stormed the polling station, seizing election materials, including the councillorship result sheet.
The voter stated that these individuals arrived while officials were processing results and released tear gas before absconding with the document.
“APC brought gunmen to seize the result sheet we were calculating and took it away. They also tear-gassed everyone,” the voter claimed in the video.
Security personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Nigeria Police Force were present at the scene during the incident.
Following the tear gas attack, several voters fled the area, leading to confusion and a temporary halt in the vote-counting process.
