Businessman Detained at Kano Airport for Attempted Cocaine Trafficking to China
A 62-year-old businessman from Lagos, Nwabueze Nicholas Izueke, was apprehended at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA) on January 31, 2026, for attempting to smuggle 95 jumbo-sized wraps of cocaine, weighing 1.589 kilograms, concealed inside his stomach.
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) disclosed the arrest in a statement issued by its Director of Media & Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, on Sunday, February 8.
Izueke was traveling to China via Addis Ababa when a body scan revealed the illicit substances. Upon close observation, he expelled the pellets in seven rounds.
He admitted to engaging in drug trafficking to raise funds for completing the construction of his family home in Iwollo, Enugu State.
