F.G. Inaugurates Emergency Infrastructure Projects in Niger State

The Minister of Works, Senator Engineer Nweze David Omahi, officially commissioned two urgent federal government projects in Niger State, focusing on embankment washout repairs, the construction of two cell box culverts, and the rehabilitation of the road connecting Gwada community with Shiroro Hydro Dam.
During a media tour at NEPA Quarters in Gwada, Shiroro Local Council, Senator Umahi explained that these projects constitute Niger State’s share of the federal emergency initiatives.
He highlighted that prior to their commencement, travel between Gwada and Shiroro Hydro Dam was highly problematic, but the timely construction of the culvert has significantly improved connectivity.
Represented by Engineer Eyitayo Aluko, Controller, Federal Ministry of Works in Niger State, the Minister disclosed that sectional repairs had also been carried out from Gwada to Shiroro to further reduce travel time.
He elaborated that the scope of work included embankment stabilization, construction of two box culverts, and laying of asphalt and stone base materials. The federal government has initiated over 260 emergency projects nationwide, with some completed and others nearing completion, under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration.
The Minister commended contractors for their punctuality and quality of work. During the flag-off ceremony, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Niger State Council, Comrade (Dr) Abu Nmodu, praised President Tinubu’s foresight in launching emergency infrastructure projects across the country, emphasizing their positive impact on citizens.
Represented by Vice-Chairman Comrade Uriah Gana, Dr Nmodu also noted the importance of government-media collaboration in promoting awareness of government programs.
Additionally, Engineer Dr. Bala Salihu of COREN, Niger State Chapter, acknowledged that the projects have enhanced economic and social benefits for the community. He expressed gratitude for federal intervention and called for continued support across other critical sectors.
Gwada Village Head Alhaji Alhassan Zarumai expressed appreciation for the federal government’s efforts, noting that social and economic activities, previously stagnated, are now rapidly recovering.
The delegation then departed for Bida to oversee the ongoing construction of the 29-kilometer Bida-Wushishi-Zungeru road. Senator Umahi mentioned that despite challenges such as insecurity and community opposition, these issues have been resolved, and approximately 65% of the project is complete, with completion expected within two weeks.
Engineer Abdulrahman Bala Gambo of the Nigeria Society of Engineers, Minna Branch, praised the quality of work and pledged continued collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Works.
