Niger State NUT Commends Gov. Umaru Bago’s Landmark Education Reforms
The Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT), Niger State Wing, praises the Niger State Government for officially gazetting and implementing major policies aimed at improving teachers’ welfare and strengthening the education sector in the state.
In a joint press release signed by Comrade Adamu Mohammed Akayago, the State Chairman, and Comrade Umaru Musa Kuta, the State Secretary, the Union highlights the approval of the new retirement age for teachers, a policy initially announced by His Excellency, the Farmer Teacher Governor of Niger State, Umaru Mohammed Bago, during the 2025 World Teachers’ Day Celebration.
This policy, now supported by official government documents, sets a retirement age of 65 years or 40 years of pensionable service, whichever comes first, for qualified teachers in Niger State.
Additionally, the Governor has approved the conditional return of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA), to be overseen by the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education. The administration also authorized a retreat for primary and secondary school teachers eligible for promotion to Grade Level 17.
These initiatives demonstrate the government’s comprehensive approach to educational reform, teacher motivation, and effective school governance.
