Tribunal Issues Warrant for Niger State Revenue Chairman Over Document Non-Compliance.
The Senatorial District of Zone B within the Niger State Local Government Election Petition Tribunal issued a bench warrant on Tuesday for Alhaji Madami Etsu, Chairman of the Niger Board of Internal Revenue Service (NSBIRS), due to his failure to produce key documents relevant to the affidavit submitted by Suleja Local Government Chairman Hon Isyaku Bawa Naibi.
Chief Magistrate Maryam King, presiding over the tribunal, announced that multiple invitations sent to the chairman of the NSBIRS requesting the presentation of a certified true copy of the receipt used in purchasing the documents had been ignored.
A tribunal member, Chief Magistrate Paul Adama, condemned Etsu’s refusal as disrespectful to the tribunal’s authority as established by law and the Constitution.
Despite several subpoenas issued to the NSBIRS chairman, he has refused to appear and produce the necessary receipt.
As a result, the tribunal has issued a warrant for his arrest, mandating his appearance on January 14, 2026, to produce the required document.
In an interview, petitioner’s counsel, Barrister Abdulraham Ahmad Siraj, confirmed that the chairman of the state’s Internal Revenue Service had failed to honor repeated invitations to produce relevant documents, which are crucial to the case.
He further explained that the tribunal authorized the arrest warrant to ensure the production of the receipt used in the affidavit.
Meanwhile, Abdukadir Shehu Ndagi of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has filed a petition contesting the election of Isyaku Bawa Naibi of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The petition alleges that Naibi was unqualified to contest the Suleja Local Government chairmanship election held on November 1, 2025, claiming forgery of his primary school certificate and citing irregularities and violations of electoral laws.
