FCT Police Arrest Suspected ‘One-Chance’ Killers in Abuja
The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has detained suspected members of a notorious “one-chance” criminal gang believed to be behind violent robberies and murders in Abuja.
According to police, the suspects were captured following intelligence-led operations carried out in parts of the Kubwa area, including Dei-Dei and nearby communities. The arrests came after investigations into recent attacks linked to criminals who disguise themselves as commercial transport operators to lure victims.
Police sources revealed that the suspects are believed to be connected to the death of Abuja-based lawyer, Barrister Princess Nwamaka Mediatrix Chigbo, who was reportedly attacked after entering a vehicle suspected to be operated by the gang. Digital tracking and intelligence gathering reportedly played crucial roles in tracing the suspects.
Items recovered from the suspects include evidence believed to have been used in previous crimes by the gang. The police state that the suspects have admitted to being part of a one-chance network that specializes in robbery, assault, and, in some cases, killing victims after drugging or attacking them inside vehicles.
The FCT Police Command assured residents that investigations are ongoing and that efforts are being stepped up to dismantle all one-chance groups operating within the city. The suspects will face charges in court once the investigation concludes.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has called for a thorough investigation and swift prosecution of everyone involved, urging security agencies to strengthen measures to safeguard residents.
Residents have also been advised to stay alert, avoid unregistered or suspicious vehicles, and report any strange activity to the appropriate security agencies.
