Breaking News: National Grid Experiences Collapse Due to Power Plant Outages
The national grid collapsed on Monday following the loss of generation at multiple major power plants.
Our source confirmed that the grid went down around 3 pm, resulting in widespread power outages across Nigeria.
Power generation had peaked at approximately 4,800 megawatts earlier in the day before decreasing to 1,139 megawatts by 3 pm, according to data obtained by our correspondent.
The exact cause of the collapse has not been immediately confirmed. However, the incident occurred at a time when the Nigerian Independent System Operator was working to increase power output amid recent gas supply disruptions caused by pipeline vandalism.
As of the time of this report, all 22 power plants connected to the grid had ceased generating electricity.
