NLC Protest in Minna Urges Action Against Nigeria’s Security Challenges

The Chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Niger State chapter, Comrade Abdul Kareem Edris Lafene, led a peaceful demonstration in Minna, the state capital, to condemn the persistent security issues affecting the country.
At the State House of Assembly, Comrade Abdul Kareem delivered a letter from the Nigeria Labour Congress to the speaker, outlining key demands directed at both state and federal governments. The letter urged authorities to identify and prosecute those responsible for Nigeria’s security challenges.
He emphasized the imperative for political leaders to uphold their constitutional responsibility to safeguard citizens’ lives and property. He also called for comprehensive socio-economic reforms to address the root causes of insecurity, stressing the urgency for government action to protect ordinary Nigerians regardless of their location.
The nationwide protest involved the delivery of Union letters of demand to the Niger State House of Assembly, which will be forwarded to Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, with the aim of pressing for these demands and restoring citizens’ dignity.
Additionally, he appealed to the Niger State Governor to do everything possible to secure the release of the remaining students from St. Mary’s Private Secondary School Papiri, Agwara local government area of Niger state.
In response, the Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abdullalik Sarkin Daji, stated that the assembly is the voice of Nigerlite. “We have accepted the letter in good faith and will act swiftly, without delay.”
He further affirmed that the demands would not only be discussed by the assembly but also forwarded to the governor and other relevant agencies.
The speaker assured that the letter would be read at the upcoming plenary session, aligning with the position of the Nigeria Labour Congress.
