Niger State House of Assembly Swears in New Member and Reviews Key Legislation.

Today, Hon. Dagara Daje, the newly elected representative for Munya Constituency, was officially sworn in as a Member of the Niger State House of Assembly.
ceremony was conducted by the Rt. Hon. Barr. (Dr.) Abdulmalik Mohammed Sarkin-Daji, Speaker of the Assembly, during a plenary session.
Following the administration of the Oath of Allegiance and the Oath of Membership, the Speaker extended his congratulations and welcomed Hon. Daje to the 10th Assembly of Niger State.
He expressed the Assembly’s commitment to supporting Hon. Daje, ensuring he can make meaningful contributions to the legislative process.
During the session, the Assembly also engaged in important legislative activities, including the second reading of two private Member Bills.
1. Niger State Hisbah Board Bill – Sponsored by Hon. Mohammed Abubakar (Ustaz), Member for Chanchaga Constituency, this Bill aims to establish the Niger State Hisbah Board.
The Board is tasked with:
– Assisting the Police and other security agencies
– Promoting Islamic values
– Enhancing moral counseling within the community
– Encouraging acts of kindness and charitable contributions
– Facilitating reconciliation of civil disputes
The Speaker has referred this Bill to the House Standing Committee on Religious Affairs, with a report due back in eight weeks.
2. Prohibition of Scavengers and Panteka Business Bill – Sponsored by Hon. Murtala Adamu Badaru, Member for Suleja Constituency, this Bill seeks to prohibit the activities of scavengers and panteka businesses in residential areas across Niger State. It outlines penalties for non-compliance, including fines and imprisonment.
This Bill has been referred to the House Standing Committees on Environment and Judiciary and Legal Matters for further evaluation and reporting back to the Assembly.
These developments mark significant steps in the legislative agenda of the Niger State House of Assembly.
