Rijau Local Government Area Restores Peace After Recent Bandit Attacks.
Rijau Local Government Area has begun to see a return to normalcy as displaced residents return to their homes following recent bandit attacks.
In a collaborative response, local authorities and military forces successfully repelled the bandits, leading to a significant recovery of stolen livestock and the safe return of some kidnapping victims.
Following the attacks on Rijau town, local government Chairman, Danladi Kombo Uganda promptly informed the state governor Mohammed Umar Bago, who acted without delay by contacting the Air Force for immediate assistance.
The aerial support from Niger and Kebbi States helped repel the bandits, and while there were no casualties among the local population due to the swift action, approximately 90% of the cattle that had been stolen were recovered, along with six of the nine individuals who were kidnapped.
Chairman Hon. Danladi Kombo Uganda reported ongoing efforts to secure the release of the remaining three hostages, who are currently being held by the bandits.The abductors have demanded a ransom of nine million naira for their release.
Chairman Kombo Uganda emphasized the importance of communicating with the state Governor Umar Bago to ensure comprehensive updates on the situation.
In addition to rescue efforts, Chairman Kombo has made an urgent appeal for government assistance in supplying food and essential items to the internally displaced persons (IDPs) residing in camps throughout the area.
The number of displaced individuals is reportedly increasing daily, and local government councils are struggling to meet the rising demand due to depleted resources.
As the situation continues to evolve, local authorities remain committed to restoring peace and ensuring the safety and well-being of residents in Rijau. Efforts are underway to provide necessary support for those affected by the violence, with ongoing discussions between Rijau local government Council and the state officials.
Attempts were made to contact the Niger State Commissioner for Homeland Security, Hon. Bello Abdullahi Mohammed, to obtain the state government’s perspective. However, these attempts were unsuccessful as he did not answer or return the calls.
