Federal government has been urged to implement a Subsidy for Hajj Fares.
The Federal Government, under the leadership of President Ahmed Bola Tinubu, has been called upon to implement a subsidy for Hajj fares applicable to both Muslim and Christian pilgrims in Nigeria. This request was articulated by Dr. Umar Farooq Abdullahi, the Director General of the Bureau for Religious Affairs, in a communique following the annual Nupe Tafsir event held at Gidan Mattasa in Minna.
Dr. Abdullahi emphasized that such a subsidy would facilitate the faithful in fulfilling their religious obligations without undue financial burden.
He recommended a substantial allocation of one hundred billion naira as a subsidy for this year’s Hajj, aimed at alleviating the hardships faced by prospective pilgrims, especially in light of the challenges surrounding the visa issuance process for Hajj, Umrah, and Jerusalem pilgrimages.
Furthermore, Dr. Abdullahi urged elected officials, particularly members of the National Assembly, to act with integrity and a sense of accountability in addressing the pressing economic issues confronting the nation.
He commended Governor Umar Mohammed Bago for his efforts in distributing relief materials during the Ramadan season and encouraged the public to continue praying for the success of the current administration.
In addition, he cautioned the youth against drug abuse and reckless driving during the Eid celebrations.
Dr. Abdullahi also called on the federal government to reconsider the existing fuel subsidy framework to mitigate the economic challenges experienced by ordinary citizens.
He reinforced the importance of religious leaders advocating for the wealthy to contribute to the welfare of underprivileged members of society.
Dr. Abdullahi expressed gratitude to the organizers and supporters of the event, wishing for the continued success of similar future initiatives.
