Chief Judge’s Efforts to Alleviate Overcrowding discharged fifteen awaiting trial in Niger State Old Custodial Center.

In a significant move to address overcrowding in the old Minna Custodial Center, Chief Judge of Niger State, Justice Halima Ibrahim Abdulmalik, has discharged fifteen awaiting trial inmates.
This decision includes the granting of pardons to five convicted inmates who had served substantial portions of their sentences.
The remaining ten inmates were released after undergoing a summary review in line with Justice Halima Ibrahim’s directives.
This initiative forms part of the Chief Judge’s broader efforts to decongest the custodial facility and review the cases of inmates awaiting trial.
During a welcoming address, Comptroller Ahusa Aliyu expressed gratitude to Justice Halima Ibrahim Abdulmalik and her team for their timely intervention, noting that this gesture will significantly help alleviate the challenges currently faced due to overcrowding in the center.
