Niger State Governor Launches Comprehensive Ward Development Initiative, Allocates N9.8 Billion for Community Projects

Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has officially inaugurated the State Steering Committee for the Niger State Ward Development Project at the Government House in Minna.
During the ceremony, he announced a significant annual budget of N9.864 billion dedicated to enhancing development across the state’s 274 wards, with a monthly allocation of N3 million earmarked for each ward.
Governor Bago characterized the inauguration of the Committee as a pivotal moment for all residents of Niger State.
He emphasized that this long-anticipated Ward Development Project is now underway, with the State Steering Committee responsible for initiating Local Government Committees that will further establish committees at the ward level.
The Governor indicated that the composition of Local Government Committees would differ by ward to ensure representation of essential stakeholders within each community.
He urged committee members to approach their roles with seriousness, highlighting the necessity of a thorough needs assessment across various sectors—including health, education, sanitation, water, security, and infrastructure—to determine the specific requirements of each ward.
Expressing confidence in the capabilities of the Committee members, Governor Bago encouraged them to approach their tasks with diligence. He also mentioned that the initial N3 million allocation serves as a foundational figure, which could be complemented by additional resources from local councils, education, and healthcare ministries, ensuring equitable project distribution across the state.
Governor Bago advocated for the inclusion of local experts in project execution, promoting community involvement and productivity to foster rapid state development.
Phalalu Bako Mohammed, the Chairman of the State Steering Committee and Commissioner for Rural and Community Development, expressed gratitude to the Governor for his trust.
He assured that the Committee would work diligently to achieve positive outcomes. He acknowledged the previous administration’s considerable contributions to state development and outlined plans for immediate citizen engagement and project monitoring to ensure responsible fund management.
The committee comprises notable members, including Mu’azu Hamidu Jantabo, Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, and Vice Chairman Alh. Aminu Musa Bobi, alongside other key figures from Niger State’s political and administrative landscape. Dr. Yakubu Mohammed Bello, the Permanent Secretary for Rural Development, will serve as the Committee’s Secretary.
