Gov. Bago wife distributes N100m to victims of dynamite explosion
The Wife of Niger Governor, Hajiya Fatima Bago, has distributed N100 million to victims of dynamite explosion in Sabon-Pegi in Mashegu local government area of the state.
She made the call while disbursing Senator Oluremi Tinubu’s N100 million donation to families of the dynamite explosion at Sabon Pegi in Mashegu Local Government Area of Niger State.
The intervention is a donation received from the First Lady, Sen. Oluremi Tinubu, to provide succour to victims of the incident.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu had on Feb 4, during a sympathy visit to the governor of the state, Umaru Bago, announced a donation of N100 million to the victims.
The explosion occurred in Sabon Pegi, Mashegu Local Government Area on Jan. 26, where three people were reported killed and several others injured.
The First Lady urged residents to desist from stockpiling harmful objects that can kill or injure people.
She also emphasised her intention to partner with the ministries of solid minerals, women affairs, humanitarian affairs, and disaster management to sensitize, educate, and inform Nigerlites on the hazards of unregulated mining.
Fatima Bago noted that unregulated mining has led to a drop in school enrollment and other social menaces, stressing that all hands must be on deck to achieve the goal.
She called for strong awareness and collaboration to curb the dangers associated with unregulated and crude methods of mining in Nigeria.
In his remarks, the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs, Ahmed Baba Suleiman Yumu, appreciated the efforts of the state governor and Senator Oluremi Tinubu, stating that the effort was timely due to the disaster that occurred.
The Mashegu Local Government Council Chairman, Umar Jibrin Igate, reassured the state government that preventive measures would be put in place to avoid any further disaster within and outside the communities.
The Niger State Government, under the leadership of Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, has redeemed its financial pledges to the victims, distributing items such as bags of 50kg rice, maize, salt, vegetable oil, mattresses, and blankets.
