NERC Transfers Regulatory Oversight of Electricity Market to Niger State

The Niger State Government has announced that the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) has officially transferred regulatory oversight of the electricity market in the state to the Niger State Electricity Regulatory Commission (NSERC).
In a statement on his social media account, X, Abdullberqy Usman Ebbo, the Governor’s Special Adviser on Digital Media and Strategy, characterized this development as a pivotal moment for the state’s energy management strategy.
Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago emphasized that this transition signifies a substantial victory for the residents of Niger State, enabling the state to take the reins of its electricity system.
As a result of this change, NSERC will now be responsible for regulating the electricity market, positioning Niger State to achieve greater energy independence and stability.
Ebbo further highlighted that this development will empower the state to implement targeted policies and initiatives aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity, ensuring food security, and fostering job creation, all of which will contribute to improved livelihoods for the community.
He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing the reliability and efficiency of electricity supply, which is essential for promoting economic growth and development in both Niger State and Nigeria at large.
