Federal Roads in Niger State – Hon. Minister of Works Doing a Commendable Job.

I would like to commend the Honourable Minister of Works, Senator Engineer David Umahi, CON, FNSE, for his dedication to duty and exemplary leadership in guiding the Federal Ministry of Works to implement the National Road Master Plan as part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Honourable Minister demonstrated this commitment by convening a stakeholder meeting in his office in Abuja to address the challenges affecting the timely completion of ten ongoing federal road projects across Niger State.

Senator Mohammed Sani Musa CON, In a Press statement, said he had the privilege of leading a delegation of National Assembly members from Niger State, alongside the proactive Governor, Rt. Hon. Mohammed Umar Bago. “I was thoroughly impressed by Governor Bago’s presentation, during which he detailed the status of each road project in the state, including a call for the revocation of the contract for the Minna–Suleja Road project”, originally awarded in 2010.

“I was equally impressed by the Minister’s proactive and decisive actions in response to the concerns raised at the meeting”.

He invoked relevant legal provisions to revoke some non-performing contracts and reprimanded contractors and Ministry staff who had neglected their responsibilities in managing road contracts.

According to him, It is commendable that the Minister is willing to take strong measures against anyone attempting to undermine the Renewed Hope Agenda within the Federal Ministry of Works, warning that “anyone found wanting will face consequences and be reported to the EFCC where necessary.” This reflects a strong commitment to duty and positions Engineer David Umahi as ideally suited for his role.

Senator Musa also applauds President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for appointing him as the Honourable Minister of Works.

The people of Niger State are pleased to see that the Minister has directed the revocation, redesign, and re-awarding of the dualization of the Suleja-Lambatta-Minna (Phase 1 & 2) project.

He has also instructed the contractor responsible for the reconstruction of the Bida-Lapai-Lambatta road to return to the site and commence work from the Bida-Lapai axis, as requested by Governor Bago.

Moreover, the Minister assured us that he would seek additional funding for the rehabilitation of the Mokwa-Makera-Tegina road project in the 2025 budget.

“I must also commend the outstanding sense of responsibility and commitment demonstrated by the diligent Governor of Niger State, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Umar Bago, actively addresses federal road projects in the state, ensuring they do not suffer from neglect or substandard work, which ultimately affects the people of Niger State.

He urges all governors to follow Governor Bago’s example by engaging with federal contractors in their states to ensure value for money and to support Mr. President’s Renewed Hope Agenda for a better Nigeria.
