Niger State pensioners applaud government’s payment of gratuity
The Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), Niger State Council, has commended the state government for prioritizing monthly pension payments and resuming gratuity payments to retirees.
This appreciation was expressed during the union’s State Executive Council meeting held on November 5, 2024, at the NUP Conference Hall in Minna.
The union specifically acknowledged Governor Mohammed Umar Bago’s efforts in making monthly pension a first-line charge. However, they appealed to the governor to assist local government retirees with their gratuity payments.
Key resolutions at the meeting is Establishment of Gender Committees_: Local government NUP chapters are urged to set up gender committees immediately and collaboration with Council Chairmen.
Pensioners are encouraged to work harmoniously with local government chairmen and stakeholders, Cordial Relationships: NUP branch chairmen and secretaries should establish good relationships with council chairmen.
The union praised Alhaji Nasiru Namaska, Digital Director of the Pension Board, and his staff for ensuring prompt gratuity payments. They also thanked pensioners for contributing to the commissioning of the NUP Secretariat and expressed support for the state government’s Nicare program.
In a show of confidence, pensioners passed a vote of confidence on the NUP state executives. The union also appreciated the Nigeria Labour Congress’s support and contributions to NUP state officials and pensioners.
The communique drafting committee comprised Mal. Mohammed Erena (Chairman), Mrs. Deborah Salawu, Mal. Mohammed Sule (Co-Secretary), and Mal. Yahaya Musbahu (Secretary).and jointly signed by the State Chairman, Comrade Ishaku Ndagi and the State Secretary, Comrade Abdullahi Baba Sani.
