Independence Day: Make frantic effort to redeem Nigeria’s economy – CAN Chairman to Tinubu
Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Niger state chapter , Most Rev. Dr. Bulus Dauwa Yohanna has called on Nigeria’s President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu to make frantic efforts to salvage the current economic hardship that has bedevilled the nation.
Speaking during a prayer service organized by the Christian Body as part of activities to mark Nigeria’s 64th anniversary at the First Baptist Church, Minna, Yohanna who is also the Catholic Bishop of Kontagora Diocese said the President should do all he can to stabilize the economy, adding that “Nigerians are praying and needs nothing short of positive results”.
Represented by his Deputy, Rev. Ezekiel Ibrahim, the Chairman noted that the country is indeed going through a difficult time at the moment with the prevailing harsh economy, orchestrated by several factors.
According to him “even though enormous, I believe the challenges are surmountable, and by the grace of God there will be light at the end of the tunnel”.
The State CAN Chairman however called on Nigerlites to deepen their prayers for the peace and prosperity of the state and nation at large to overcome the challenges
Accordingly, he said “a child born 64 years ago and is still struggling on how to handle challenges obviously needs sustained prayers. Nigeria needs our prayers to sustain our peace and stability”.
Furthermore, he called on Christians not to focus on the negatives alone, but to reflect on God’s mercies, favours and be thankful to Him for keeping the nation as one entity despite the challenges.
While congratulating President Tinubu, Niger state Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago and all well meaning Nigerlites on the 64th anniversary of nationhood, he prayed God Almighty to intervene and end the prevailing insecurity and economic realities confronting the nation.
Earlier, in his sermon by Pastor Michael Gbedero titled, “In Times Like This” from the book of Esther chapter 4:13-17, urged the people to rise up and work together towards changing the current difficult situation confronting the nation.
“We need people that will rise up and say no to the kidnappings, the injustices in the country. We need those that will stand up and fight for the oppressed in our society. Let’s set aside all negative sentiments and unite in love and pray for a greater nation. Together, we can rebuild our country,” the cleric advised.
