Fed University of Technology Minna Mark’s 10 Year Anniversary of WASCAL Esterblishment.

The West African Science Service Center WASCAL has commended the effort of The Federal University Of Technology Minna for establishing a research center in Climate Change.
The University’s Vice. Chancellor ,Professor Faruk Adamu Kuta stated this during the 10th Year anniversary of establishing the Center in the the University.
Professor Kuta further said the center was established essentially to addresed the emerging challenges of the Climate Change most especially at the grass root level.
“We want to have a center closer to the grass root , so that our rural dwellers can easily understand more about climate Change based on the researches carried out by the University”.Prof Adamu Kuta said.
Professor Adamu while commending the German Government for it’s funding of the program since it inception 10 Years ago, further appreciated the Federal Government for leaving up to expectation of counter part funding of the Program.
According to him the Program has produced graduate up to the level of PhD,and very soon lots of innovation by the center would be unvail in the board, not limited to climate Change alone.
The Director WASCAL Federal University Of Technology Minna, Professor Appolonia Okhimamhe appreciated the effort of the University, Said the Center have been recording so many success with the firm support of the University’s Management led by visionary Vice Chancellors.
“We successfully graduated 30 Masters Students within a period of 6 Years, and Currently on PhD Students within Nigeria and other African Countries”.
The Head of The WASCAL Governing Board Professor Mahammadu Hassirou from Niger Republic who led Members of the Board from other Countries in West Africa, Said the main objective of the programme is to train West African Students and other stakeholders for a better inclusion of Climate change issues in the policies and sustainable development projects and programmes.
“We do this through capacity building support to young West African scholars
in fields of climate, natural and social sciences and by delivering climate and environmental
services in member countries”.
The West African Science Service Centre on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use
(WASCAL) as a field of study on a
on Climate Change and Adapted Land Use, is a large-scale research- focused climate service center with headquarters in Accra (Ghana) and a research competence center (CoC) in Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso).
The Center has 11 West African member countries, namely: Benin,
Burkina Faso, Cabo Verde, Cote d’Ivoire, Ghana, The Gambia, Mali, Niger, Nigeria, Senegal and Togo.
Part of the 10th Year anniversary activities of the WASCAL was presentation of awards to Researchers and other Stakeholders in the Climate Change Sector.
