Bago urges corps members to participate actively in community service
By Mohammed Baba Busu

Gov. Umar Bago of Niger has urged 2024 Batch ‘A’ Stream II corps members posted to the state to participate actively in Community Development Service (CDS) programmes during their one year national service.

Bago stated this at the closing ceremony of the orientation course for the corps members at the NYSC Permanent orientation camp in Paiko, Paikoro Local Government Area on Tuesday.

Bago, represented by the Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Yahaya Gulbin-Boka,
congratulated the corps members for completing the three- week orientation course.

He urged the corps members  to sustain the training received from the orientation course in their various places of primary assignments.

The governor urged them to participate actively in all programmes in the scheme, especially the CDS and the Skills Acquisition an Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programmes.

“These programmes have over the years helped in developing our communities and lives of corps members,” he said.

Bago assured the corps members and the NYSC in general of his administration’s determination to provide a befitting orientation camp for the scheme in the state.

“The provision of a befitting orientation camp in Niger state remains our topmost priority,” he said.

He also reiterated his administration’s statutory responsibility to the welfare of the corps members, their security and well-being.

Earlier, the NYSC state coordinator, Mrs Olayinka Abdulwahab,  congratulated the corps members and urged them to approach the remainder of the service year with humility and a spirit of selflessness.

Adulwahab charged the corps members to be security conscious at all times maintaining  that security is everybody’s business.

“You should avoid acts that will endanger your lives such as staying out late, attending night parties, visitation of dangerous places, acceptance of car rides and gifts from strangers, engaging in cybercrime, hate speeches among others,” she said.

The coordinator also cautioned them to embrace their postings with grace and resist the temptation to seek reassignment.

She urged them to, instead, settle in and begin to making meaningful impact based on the training they have received.

Abdulwahab urged corps employers to always accept corps members posted to their establishments, make necessary provisions for their welfare and mentor them properly.

She also reminded the State government of the scheme’s request for a befitting permanent orientation camp.

The coordinator thanked security outfits in the state for the efforts put in to maintain peace and order.(NAN)
