Niger State Information Ministry Showcases Three Years of Achievements in Governor Bago’s Administration

The Niger State Ministry of Information and Orientation has established a strategic platform enabling Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to present their accomplishments, ongoing projects, and future plans from the past three years under Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago’s leadership.

This high-level media briefing at the Communications Technology and Digital Economy Agency in Minna marked the third anniversary of Governor Bago’s administration and the launch of the New Niger Agenda. It brought together commissioners, agency heads, media professionals, and stakeholders to promote transparency, accountability, and direct engagement between government officials and the public.

Hon. Obed Nuhu Nana, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, explained that the initiative was designed to provide citizens with credible updates on government efforts and developmental initiatives. He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to transparency, openness, and inclusive governance, ensuring residents are well-informed about policies and projects across the state.

The commissioner highlighted that Governor Bago’s government is focused on institutional reforms and people-centered policies to foster sustainable economic growth, social progress, and infrastructural development.

During the event, MDAs presented key milestones. The Ministry of Health, led by Dr. Murrala Bagana, reported the establishment of 54 Level-Two Primary Healthcare Centers, with 20 new facilities opened and plans to expand to 103 centers by 2027, aiming for 274 across all wards.

In education, Dr. Hadiza Asabe Mohammed, the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, outlined efforts to strengthen supervision and accountability through Quality Assurance structures across 25 Local Government Areas, along with plans to adapt the National Teacher Career Path Policy.

Representing the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Permanent Secretary QS Baba Etsu announced ongoing construction of over 1,000 kilometers of roads via the Urban Renewal Program and approval of the Mararaban Daudu–Kuta Road project to enhance connectivity and support agriculture.

The Ministry of Agriculture, headed by Director Adamu Garba Maikasuwa, highlighted initiatives such as deploying 250 tractors, distributing 150,000 metric bags of fertilizer, and capacity-building programs to boost food security and mechanized farming.

Alhaji Aminu Suleiman Takuma, the Commissioner for Investment, Commerce, and Industry, revealed that the state attracted major foreign investments, including a $163 million solar power project supported by the Islamic Development Bank and a $684 million infrastructure package from Chinese partners across five Agro-Industrial Zones.

Engr. Farouk Umar Audi, the Water Resources and Dams Development Commissioner, reported a 20 percent expansion of the Minna Water Works network and ongoing upgrades in Chanchaga, Suleja, and New Bussa to improve water access.

On security, Barr. Mourice Magaji, the Commissioner for Homeland Security, emphasized strengthened community intelligence efforts, security coordination, and proactive response strategies to safeguard lives and property.

The briefing offered stakeholders the opportunity to engage directly with MDAs for clarifications and updates on government policies and projects.

The Ministry of Information and Orientation reaffirmed its dedication to effective government-public communication, ensuring citizens remain informed about the achievements and ongoing initiatives of the Niger State Government.
