CD/CSO Praises FCT INEC Area Councils Election 2026

The coalition of CSOs, accredited by FCT INEC as the Domestic Elections Observer Group under the Campaign for Democracy, Human Rights Advocacy Civil Society of Nigeria, led by Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Jabi and Secretary-General Comrade Tayo Ayobami of the CSOs Coalition, has commended the conduct of the FCT Area Council Election held on February 21, 2026.
In a press statement, civil society organizations (CSOs) and local election observer groups praised key stakeholders and security agencies for their roles in successfully conducting the FCT Area Council Elections 2026.
The observers highlighted the unwavering dedication of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, His Excellency Chief Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, whose commitment to fostering a peaceful political environment and active participation in campaign activities played a crucial role in the election process.
The groups commended INEC for its timely deployment and adequate logistical support, which ensured proper distribution of materials across all six Area Councils.
The use of innovative Viva machine technology was also praised for enhancing transparency and reducing malpractices, resulting in credible election outcomes.
Security agencies were recognized for deploying sufficient personnel, creating a safe and orderly environment that increased voter confidence. Approximately 95% of security operations were reported to be professional, setting a standard for future elections. Many observers are optimistic that adopting similar technological security measures in 2027 could lead to even more credible elections.
Furthermore, the groups acknowledged the collaborative efforts of CSOs, election observers, and political party agents in promoting zero tolerance for electoral violence, thereby demonstrating the electorate’s strong commitment to electoral laws.
The observers expressed gratitude to all victorious candidates and extended best wishes for successful terms.
The statement concluded with a call for continued support from non-state actors to the nation’s leadership in nation-building and humanitarian service.
