SPORTS: First Bago Inter-College Games Conclude with IBBU Lapai as Champions
Niger State Sports Commission has wrapped up its first Bago Inter-College Games competition, with Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU) Lapai emerging as the top team with a total of 34 medals—14 gold, 10 silver, and 10 bronze.
This was announced after the final football match, where Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBU) Lapai defeated Ahmadu Sanda College of Education, Minna, by one goal to nil at the Bako Kontagora Stadium in Minna, the Niger State capital.
While Abdulkadir Kure University, Minna, finished second with 49 medals—11 gold, 23 silver, and 15 bronze—and Ahmadu Umaru Sanda College of Education, Minna, took third place with 21 medals—9 gold, 7 silver, and 5 bronze.
Meanwhile, Newgate University Minna secured fourth place with 15 medals—8 gold, 3 silver, and 4 bronze, and Niger State Polytechnic Zungeru placed fifth with 2 gold, 1 silver, and 1 bronze, among others.
The competition was organized by the Niger State Sports Commission as part of its talent-hunt strategy to discover young talent. It involved eleven tertiary institutions out of the thirteen that registered for the games, competing in sports such as football, squash, Scrabble, athletics, carom, and chase.
The Commission’s Chairman, Danjuma Abdullahi Masu, credited the success to hard work, dedication, resilience, and the spirit of sportsmanship, unity, and progress. The flag was handed over to the next host and overall winner, IBBU Lapai.
The Commissioner of the Ministry of Sports Development, Abubakar Umar Abule, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Dr. Nuhu Ngaski, commended the commission for organizing a competition aimed at grassroots sports development in Niger State.
The winner’s captain expressed happiness about the victory achieved through hard work and dedication, promising to strive for a future in professional football.
