2026 Armed Forces Remembrance Day: Niger State Governor Highlights Need for Ongoing Support for Nigerian Military
Niger State Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago, a committed farmer, has urged Nigerians to continue their support for the Nigerian Army and the families of fallen heroes.
He expressed this call during the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration, Remembrance Ceremony, and Wreath-Laying event in Minna, the state capital.
Governor Bago acknowledged the tireless efforts of military personnel in safeguarding the nation’s security and sovereignty, noting that many have paid the ultimate price, while some survivors remain incapacitated.
“It is a clear call for all Nigerians to support the families of our fallen heroes. We must do everything we can, both as a government and as individuals,” he emphasized.
The ceremony’s highlight was the wreath-laying by Governor Bago, Speaker of the State House of Assembly Abdulmalik Sarkin Daji, Chief Judge Justice Halima Ibrahim Abdulmalik, and Alh. Yagaha Abubakar, Chairman of the Niger Council of Traditional Rulers.
Additional participants included commanders from TRADOC, the Nigerian Army, 31 Artillery Brigade, the 013 Quick Response Force, the Nigerian Air Force, the Police Commissioner, the Nigerian Legion’s State Chapter Chairman, veterans, a representative of the widows of fallen heroes, and other officials.
Pigeons were released to symbolize peace in the state and country. The ceremony also featured gun salutes, a guard of honor inspection, and prayers for the repose of the fallen heroes’ souls.
