Bloodbath as eight university students die in early morning accident

Tragedy struck in Jos, Plateau State, on Thursday, December 11, 2025, when eight University of Jos (UNIJOS) students lost their lives after a trailer collided with a bus carrying them home from a night outing.
Eyewitnesses said the bus driver also died at the scene, while two students were rescued and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. The students were reportedly returning from their outing around 2 a.m. in two hired buses when, near Zaria Road Stadium, a trailer allegedly suffered brake failure and crashed into one of the buses.
The collision caused the bus to swerve uncontrollably and hit an electric pole just before the Farin Gada bridge, according to bystanders.
A survivor recounted: “The collision tore the bus apart, killing eight occupants instantly before emergency responders arrived to evacuate the bodies and rush the two to a nearby hospital.”
The Plateau State Police spokesman, DSP Alabo Alfred, could not confirm the incident immediately. A senior police officer, however, said authorities have launched a search for the trailer driver, who allegedly fled the scene.
Residents and emergency responders described the crash as horrific, noting debris scattered across the road and calling for stronger safety measures on Zaria Road, a known high-risk area for accidents.
