Chanchaga Local Government Launches 15-Member Transition Committee for Transparent Handover

By Yahaya Zakka, Minna

The Chanchaga Local Government Area in Niger State has established a 15-member Transition Committee tasked with ensuring a smooth and transparent transfer of power to the incoming administration led by Dr. Mustapha Jibrin, the Chairman-Elect, and Vice Chairman Hajiya Safiya Nasidi.

The Acting Chairman of the council, Malam Isah Mohammed, inaugurated the committee members at the Chanchaga Local Government Area Secretariat in Minna.

Chairing the transition, Alhaji Isah Abdulkadir was introduced as the leader, with Barrister Ibrahim Babangida serving as Secretary.

Malam Mohammed emphasized the importance of the committee’s work, calling on members to act diligently and prioritize the interests of Chanchaga’s residents.

In his welcoming remarks, Alhaji Ibrahim Minjinyawa, the Council Secretary, congratulated the members and highlighted the qualities of the Chairman-elect, Dr. Mustapha Jibrin, as an innovative, results-oriented leader who will benefit from a strong foundation as he begins his tenure.

Alhaji Abdulkadir assured that the committee would operate with integrity, diligence, transparency, and courage, stating that the transition process is vital for continuity and effective governance.

He also emphasized that the committee would avoid witch-hunting or empty praise, instead providing factual and objective reports to support the new administration.

Their responsibilities include compiling an inventory of government assets such as buildings, vehicles, equipment, furniture, and project sites. They will review ongoing and completed projects, evaluate their statuses, and make recommendations.

The committee will assess the local government’s financial health, including budgets, revenue streams, expenses, debts, and liabilities, as well as review personnel matters like staffing, promotions, postings, salaries, and pending issues.

Additionally, they will examine contracts and obligations for compliance with financial regulations and due process, study handover notes from the outgoing administration, identify urgent gaps, and suggest immediate and long-term actions.

The assigned timeline for completing these tasks is between two and four weeks, encompassing document collection, site inspections, assessments, and compiling findings.

Members of the state committee include Fati Abubakar, Adamu Ayawa, Apostle Solomon, Muktar Mustapha, Isa Abdullahi, Tanko Mohammed, Mohammed Babadoko, Dr. D’anlami Dauda, and Muhammed Anas, along with Hauwa Muhammad Manta, Aliyu Mohammed, Yakubu Baba Gaba, and Mohammed Bawa Ibrahim.

This development follows the November 1 local government chairmanship election conducted by the Niger State Independent Electoral Commission (NSIEC), which saw Dr. Mustapha Jibrin elected as Chairman-Elect of Chanchaga, with Hajiya Safiya Nasidi as Vice Chairman.
