Sports Philanthropist Dr. Yahaya Nauzo Praises Niger State Squash League for Youth Development
Sports philanthropist and medical practitioner Dr. Yahaya Nauzo has commended the Niger State Squash Association (NSSA) for organizing a monthly squash league, which he believes promotes youth development by creating jobs and reducing hunger and frustration.
Dr. Nauzo made these remarks at the finals of the 6th edition of the NSSA Squash League held at Minna Sports Club on Saturday. Represented by Dr. Salisu Nauzo, he expressed satisfaction that many young boys and girls, who might otherwise be idle or susceptible to negative influences, have embraced squash. He is hopeful they will continue to excel and gain recognition in the sport.
The sponsor stated that his support for the 6th edition was motivated by NSSA’s aim to keep children off the streets and offer opportunities for those involved in squash within the state.
Despite practicing abroad, Nauzo congratulated the winners and pledged additional support to develop future professional players and restore squash’s prominence in Niger State.
Mrs. Taiwo Akinkoye, Chairperson of NSSA and Nigeria’s former top squash player, emphasized the league’s role in nurturing champions for regional, national, and international events.
She noted that the competition has successfully kept some youths away from societal vices such as drug abuse.
At the finals, Gideon Ibrahim and Esther maintained their dominance in the senior categories, while Elijah Kwange surpassed Isaac Afokhai in the junior division. Gideon defeated Miracle Emmanuel 3-0, with Samuel Alabi and Samson Alabi finishing third.
