Massive Fire at Jabi Mall’s Adidas Store Results in Significant Losses.
A devastating fire broke out on Wednesday night at the Adidas Store in Jabi Lake Mall, Abuja, causing extensive damage estimated at ₦6 billion.
The blaze lasted for over six hours but was effectively contained due to the coordinated efforts of several Federal Fire Service (FFS) units, including FFS 75, FFS 88, and FFS 164, along with the support of the Julius Berger Fire Service.
The operation, led by Crew Commander S.F. Agbo, successfully reduced potential losses and prevented what could have been the total destruction of the multi-billion-naira establishment.
According to a statement from the FFS, the quick response by firefighters helped salvage approximately ₦94 billion worth of assets out of an estimated ₦100 billion in stock before the incident.
Controller General of the FFS, Olumode Adeyemi Samuel, commended the bravery and teamwork of the firefighters, emphasizing the service’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the nation.
While the investigation into the fire’s cause is ongoing, officials confirmed that the flames were contained to a specific area of the mall, preventing any further spread to neighboring stores and public spaces.
Witnesses described a scene of chaos as shoppers and employees hurried to safety during the outbreak; thankfully, no casualties have been reported.
In light of this incident, the Fire Service has urged business owners and facility managers to implement essential fire prevention measures. These include performing routine electrical inspections, avoiding circuit overloads, installing fire detection systems, and ensuring that emergency exits remain accessible.
