Police Training School tasks new constables on diligence, discipline

By Mohammed Baba Busu

The Commandant of the Police Training School (PTS), Minna, Niger, ACP Yunusa Isah-Wakili, has charged the 370 new Police Constables to be diligent and disciplined in the discharge of their national assignment.

Isah-Wakili spoke on Tuesday in Mina at the Passing Out Parade (POP) of the new Constables under the 2022/2023 training year.

He recalled that the graduands had gone through extensive six months Mandatory Police Training.

The commandant observed that the training was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Federal Government, Ministry of Police Affairs, Police Service Commission and the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

Isah-Wakili applauded the federal government for providing the enabling ground for the  recruitment of 10,000 interested young men and women from across the country into the NPF.

He further said that the gesture was aimed at augmenting the available manpower, especially at a time when the country was bedevilled by numerous security challenges.

Wakili affirmed that the 370 graduating constables were drawn from Niger, FCT, Jigawa, Katsina, Kaduna and Kano States.

Welcoming the new intake into the NPF family, Wakili urged them to improve on those areas they once criticised the force for not doing well.

“I urgent you to improve on areas like human rights violations by some police officers. Let your decisions be informed by the guiding principles of the force to avoid being sanctioned,” he said.

The commandant said the event was a milestone, saying: “Obviously, your contributions to security of lives and property especially as the clock tick towards the 2027 General Elections are crucial.”

He lauded the staffers of the institution for their unwavering commitment that led to the huge success of the training year.

Isah-Wakili also commended the Inspector-General of Police (I-G), Mr Kayode Egbetokun as well as DIG, Training and Development, Mr Frank Mba, for their invaluable logistics and moral support to the school.

He, however, urged the authorities to come to the urgent aid of the institution through the construction an ultramodern parade ground, renovation of lecture halls and hostels, as well as construction of more toilet facilities to augment the existing ones.

Wakili also applauded Gov. Umar Bago for donating a solar-powered borehole, thus, alleviating the persistent scarcity of water in the school.

He also commented the Commissioner of Police in the state and his management team for their thorough supervision and for making all the lecture sessions successful.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that 317 of the graduands were males, while, 53 were females. (NAN)(www.nannewd.ng)
