Niger State Partners with Dangote Group and Africa Rice to Enhance Nigeria’s Rice Production.

The Niger State Government is making significant strides to increase rice production in Nigeria through a partnership with the Dangote Group and Africa Rice.
This initiative, spearheaded by Niger Foods Security Systems and Logistics Company, aims to boost Nigeria’s self-sufficiency in rice production.
Mr. Sammy Adigun, the Executive Chairman of Niger Foods, emphasized the importance of rice for many Nigerians, stating that any plans must take into account the needs of farmers, consumers, and the government. He noted that this collaboration is intended to enable Nigeria to produce 10 million tons of rice annually, thereby reducing the necessity for rice imports and enhancing food security in the country.
The project will allocate 500,000 hectares (approximately 1.2 million acres) of farmland in Niger State and is expected to generate around 500,000 jobs in the agricultural sector.
“This partnership represents a significant step toward ensuring that Nigeria can feed itself,” Mr. Adigun remarked. He is confident that with the resources of the Dangote Group and the expertise of Africa Rice, Niger State can become a leader in rice production within Nigeria.
This initiative aligns with the vision of Niger State’s Governor, Hon. Umaru Mohammed Bago, who aims to improve agriculture as a means of boosting the economy, empowering young people, and developing rural areas.
By increasing local rice production, the project is anticipated to attract investments in processing, storage, and distribution, thereby creating a reliable system for providing affordable rice to families throughout Nigeria.
