Farmer Governor Umaru Bago Partners with ICAN to Audit Niger State’s Financial Records.

Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State has invited the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) to conduct an audit of the state’s financial records. The aim is to correct any discrepancies and identify areas for improvement.
He announced this initiative while inaugurating the 20th Northern Zonal Accountants Conference in Minna, which has the theme “Accountability and National Re-orientation: Unlocking Nigeria’s Socio-Economic Potentials.”
Governor Bago emphasized that this partnership with ICAN will set a standard for other states across the federation. He underscored that transparency and fiscal discipline are essential for effective governance and for unlocking the state’s economic potential.
The governor remarked that the conference theme is particularly relevant to the current situation in Nigeria, highlighting the critical need for accountability, the rebuilding of trust, the promotion of national values, and stimulation of economic growth.
He pledged that his administration will continue to strengthen accountability institutions for the benefit of the people, urging conference participants to engage in meaningful discussions and develop practical recommendations to help government at all levels build stronger systems and instill public confidence.
Mallam Haruna Nma Yahaya, the President of ICAN, expressed his enthusiasm about the partnership to audit Niger State’s financial records, assuring that ICAN will maintain independence during the process.
Additionally, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, stated that the conference theme aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s national agenda, reiterating that accountability is the foundation of a thriving society.
Represented by Jibrin Baba Ndace, the Director General of the Voice of Nigeria, the minister emphasized the government’s commitment to enhancing citizen engagement and promoting transparency in its initiatives.
