Niger State Government Empowers 2,500 Women in Kontagora with N250 Million

The Niger State Government has launched the Bago Women Empowerment Grant to support 2,500 women entrepreneurs in the Kontagora Local Government Area. Each beneficiary will receive N100 thousand, totaling N250 million in funding to boost their small businesses.
Governor Muhammad Umaru Bago’s administration designed this program to support nano-businesses run by women, emphasizing community-driven development and inclusivity.
Hauwa Bako, the Special Adviser and Focal Person for the National Social Investment Program in Niger State, led government officials during the week-long initiative. She explained that the selection process involved traditional rulers, community leaders, women leaders, and religious leaders to identify deserving beneficiaries.
Bako noted that the initiative prioritized women from various backgrounds, including Fulani women, women with disabilities, widows, and those from low-income households. This approach ensures that the benefits reach a broad spectrum of women in Kontagora.
Beneficiaries such as Hadiza Bala and Larai Isah from Kawo village expressed their excitement and commitment to investing in their existing livelihood activities.
Community leaders stated that this initiative is the largest social intervention program to have been undertaken in recent years.
