Gbegnu Boknu Yakwo (GBY) Consoles Families Impacted by Kwaita Zumba Boat Mishap,Calls for Action to Prevent Future Tragedies.

The Gbegnu Boknu Yakwo Association extends its heartfelt condolences to the families affected by a tragic boat accident that occurred on Saturday in Kwaita, Zumba, Niger State.
In a statement from Comrade Bako Wakili Bosso, the President of GBY, the association described the accident as a devastating event that resulted in the loss of many lives, along with considerable livestock and farm produce.
This incident has plunged our community into deep sorrow, as numerous villagers traveling to the local market have tragically lost their lives, with only a handful of survivors managing to escape.
Comrade Wakili emphasized the urgent need to promote safe practices in water transportation, especially in areas near rivers, to prevent such incidents from recurring.
He highlighted the importance of implementing safety measures within our river communities, such as wearing life jackets and avoiding overcrowded boats, to mitigate the risk of future accidents.
The statement also urged government agencies at both federal and state levels—including the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA)—to take swift action in supporting the affected communities, survivors, and grieving families.
He called on them to provide immediate assistance as well as long-term solutions to prevent future accidents and help families rebuild their lives.
“We cannot continue to witness lives lost due to accidents that could be avoided with proper safety measures. It is crucial for the government and key stakeholders to act decisively to protect our communities, which rely on farming and water transportation for their livelihoods,” he added.
We pray that Allah grants comfort to the grieving families and strength to all those impacted by this tragedy
